Vision
The Van Horne Institute
is recognized within Canada and internationally as a leading institute of public policy
and education in the
fields of transportation and regulated industries.
The term "transportation"
is used in its broadest context, and includes the movement or transmission
of: manufactured products,
electricity, raw materials, other forms of energy, livestock, people,
natural resources, and
information via telecommunications.
Mission Statement
The Institute will
contribute positively to education and the development of public policy in the areas of
transportation and regulated industries.
Goals
To offer programs which
assist in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of transportation
and regulated industries.
To influence public and
private decision-makers in a way that contributes to improved competition in
transportation and regulated industries.
To provide high-value
programs and services to members and stakeholders.
To take a leadership role
in policy development and decision-making in transportation and regulated
industries.
To be a catalyst in the
development of educational programs in transportation and regulated
industries.
Core Business Functions
1. To manage the
Institute in a cost-effective way.
2. To contribute to
the development of post-secondary
education and training
in transportation and regulated
industries (e.g., degree programs, executive
courses).
3. To undertake in-house and client-sponsored research.
4. To host
occasional events and forums that are cost
effective and serve member and
stakeholder interests.
5. To publish and
disseminate conference proceedings
and non-confidential research.
